Simple Morning Skin Care Routine – Spring 2020

It has been a while since I last did a skin care routine.  I have completely changed the products that I use since my last one and this is what I have settled on and been using for a little while now. My skin has improved so much since I found this routine and it is so simple. I do love trying new things so I have got a new toner arriving shortly as I ordered through someone I know who is a Body Shop Rep.

[First Impressions] Lacura Q10 Multi-Intensive Serum by Aldi

Happy Monday Lovelies.

I hope you all had a good weekend.

Last week I picked up the Lacura Q10 Multi-Intensive Serum while doing my weekly shop in Aldi.  My local Aldi doesn’t seem to have the full stock of beauty products when I visit but this caught my eye.  I do not have a current serum and I was nervous to try it as I am now finally pretty happy with my regular skin care routine.

It is £2.99 so I thought at least if it did mess up my skin care routine, I wouldn’t be wasting money on something that I wouldn’t continue to use.

The packaging is very professional for the price and it comes with a little pump so it is easy to get product out.  The smell is very nice too and I find that it adsorbs into my skin very quickly.  I have only been using it a night this week and without my night cream on top.

When I first applied the product my skin did feel a little tingling sensation and I debating washing my face but this stopped quickly and I have not experienced the same again.  My skin feels super soft in the morning and it does actually make my skin look more ‘awake’ and like it has done something to it.  I have not been using it during the day but my makeup is even applying a lot better since I have starting using it. It has also not caused any breakouts so far!

Have you tried this product?

Empties – Feb 2020

Hello.

I can’t believe that we are in 2020 already!

I have neglected this blog again as work and life have just been so busy.  I have built a little collection of empties now most of which are products I started late December although some were started a little while before.   I was very lucky in December as I received a Liberty Beauty Advent Calendar from my lovely boyfriend.  Although none of the products feature in this empties, I am sure they will appear at some point in the near future. I may even do a review of the calendar as a whole!

I have also now settled in living with my boyfriend, so I have a nice organised beauty draw, which I will also show you at some point.

EDIT – I have noticed while typing that these are all products I absolutely love! When I start finishing calendar items my views will be more varied.

Too Faced Hangover Primer

You may remember that I did a first impressions on this product back in August! Which means it has lasted a lot longer than I expected! I use this every day under my makeup and on days where I am not wearing makeup just on top of my skincare! I have seen such an improvement in not only my skin but also the length of time that my makeup lasts when wearing this primer.  It has become a firm favourite. I have been eyeing up the Too Faced Skincare range and may add that to my next purchase (once I have started to use up all of the products I collected in December!)

Will I repurchase? Yes. Luckily I received a back up in my Christmas stocking.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

I have been using Clinque foundation for a while and loved it at first but soon realised it clung to my dry patches especially by the end of the working day. I saw on Instagram the opportunity to receive a sample of the Luminous Silk Foundation and having seen great reviews I jumped at it.  I carefully selected my shade – 2 and applied online.  The sample came fairly quickly and I was pleased that the shade match was perfect. The sample was intended for 10 days use but mine lasted a lot longer and I was completely in love! I probably do a full review of this in due course. It is my go to foundation, its lightweight but provides full coverage and doesn’t cause breakouts.

It is expensive at £42.00 a bottle.  I purchased my first full size one after receiving the first months rent of my flat and it is almost empty now.  It would be considered empty if it wasn’t so expensive and I wasn’t tipping every last drop out.  I purchased it in October so it has lasted well for use most days.

Would I repurchase? Yes! and again, luckily it was in my Christmas stocking.

Tesco Kind & Pure Cleansing Micellar Water

This is a great find and a product that I will do a full review post on. Early January, my boyfriend and I went away and I came back with a bad reaction to something on my face… I am unsure if it was food related or to do with skincare so I needed to take antihistamines and keep my face as clean as possible.  I saw this in Tesco at £1.50 and it said it contained camomile which in my head means soothing.  My sore skin healed every quickly after using this 2 times a day.  I have continued to use it as part of my new structured skin care and my skin has improved so much.

Would I repurchase? Already have!

CoLab Dry Shampoo

This is my favourite dry shampoo which I have previously reviewed.  There isn’t too much to say, I was stocked up at Christmas and I have just finished the unicorn one and I have the fruity one to start.

Would I repurchase? Yes

I hope you all have a great week.

Thailand & Cambodia – Part 2

It is Wednesday again!

I hope that you all had a lovely long weekend and have been enjoying the late summer sunshine.

So, after two nights in Bangkok, we headed to Cambodia…. and this is where I will pick up on Part 2 of our travels

 days 1 & 2 – Phnom Penh

We arrived at the airport and sorted out our Visa, a very long but uncomplicated process.  We headed to collect our bags and make our way to find a Taxi.  We had booked for two nights at The Plantation Phnom Penh, which was very last minute as our hotel cancelled.  We only booked this one as Bookings.com said that the prices were reduced due to building work and it was very central.  On arrival, we found that the location was actually excellent and we received a very warm welcome.  We checked into our room and headed to the pool bar in order to have an early dinner. As a bonus we didn’t actually notice any building work.

The next day we woke up early and went for breakfast, which was a buffet style and much better than the roast dinner we had previously experienced. We then decided to head out for a walk and approached a Tuk Tuk driver who gave us a very interesting tour.  This included going to a Monkey Island that was a temple full of monkeys and a weird fairground music.  The sad thing about this temple was the amount of children asking for money, I had read not to give money as it discourages education.  We also saw more temples and were a little bit shocked when the Tuk Tuk actually went on a boat to get us back to the main island.  After this we were very thirsty and needed to cool down so headed to the pool to relax.

The hotel was so nice that we decided to stay in again that night and have a relaxing day by the pool the following day.  Mark had some work to do and I sunbathed however, I did burn this day as the sun was so hot!

days 2, 3, 4, 5 – Siem Reap

We woke up early and had the amazing buffet breakfast before packing up our belongings and heading to the bus station.  I had been in charge of booking our transport while in Cambodia and after reading reviews of the buses decided to opt for Giant Ibis as these seemed the safest option.  If budget allowed, it would have been nice to fly just to save a six hour bus journey to Siem Reap.

The bus had wifi so we could check emails and we actually watched the Inbetweeners as we had downloaded this in readiness.  It had one stop for food and the use of a toilet so I was carefully on the amount of water I drunk.

It was about 6pm by the time we arrived in Siem Reap and the first thing I noticed was the heat.  It was much more intense than what it had been in Phnom Penh although there wasn’t as much sun.  Our Tuk Tuk driver to the hotel was very friendly and we made a deal with him that he could take us to Ankor Wat for sunrise in two days time. We felt that we needed a day to recover beforehand.

We had booked to stay at eOcambo Residence, which was nice but not as high end as the previous hotel.

We found that there was a lot more to do in Siem Reap, although we did make time for days around the pool too. We visited the national museum which was interesting and was all about the temples and how they were formed, unfortunately, you were not allowed to take photos in there. The rooms of Buddhas would have made good photos. We also found that there was a lot more high end shopping aimed at tourist and we found a Starbucks, a hard Rock Cafe and even a ‘strip’ called ‘Pub Street’ where we spent a night in a dance club full of mainly Chinese tourists.

The main reason to come to Siem Reap was of course, to see Ankor Wat and the other Ankor temples.  We set our alarms early on the day we had planned, at approx. half 3am and met our Tuk Tuk driver at 4am.  He took us to buy our tickets (for which they took a photo, I was not expecting and did not look my best at that time in the morning) and then to the temples.  It was so busy and every arrives before opening to get a good view of the impressive sunrise, which you can then  admire as the sun is rising further walking towards the temple as it opens.  We spent a good few hours here exploring, before heading back to our Tuk Tuk driver who took us to all the other temples including he Tomb Raider one and lunch! Lunch of course, was a rip off but it was okay!  We were completely templed out by the end of the day and happy to get back to the hotel.

We spent our last day in Siem Reap exploring further in the morning before a lazy afternoon as we knew we had a 10 hour night bus journey to Sihanoukville, which departed at 10pm and would arrive at 6am.

Part three will inlcude our stay on the Islands.

Lets talk Mascara

Happy Bank Holiday Sunday!

It may be obvious from my blog that I chop and change mascara fairly regularly. I find a lot that I do not particularly get on with and then I will find one which I love, use it all up and don’t repurchase as something else has caught my eye.

These are the mascaras that have caught my eye this past year and my honest opinion of them.

You will know that I am currently using the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, this is more expensive than I would usually buy however, I did only buy the travel size and the reviews were good!  After a rocky start with this mascara, I am loving it. My lashes are naturally long and therefore, I need a mascara that adds volume and this does it, despite being a little clumpy. My top tip is to have a Cotton Bud on hand to wipe off the excess on your eye lid. It is one that is already on my Christmas list!

Towards the end of last year, I watched a makeup tutorial online and although, I can’t remember who it was, I was sold on their review and application of Eyeko Black Magic Mascara.  Again, this is a little bit more expensive than my usual as it costs £19.00 although, I did recieve cash back with my purchase, I have noticed that Eyeko currently have 25% off so its a good time to buy.  Alternatiely, keep an eye out for these deals.

The wand with this mascara has a slight curve which does add curl to your lashes. It took me some time to get use to however, once I had perfected the method, it is probably one of the better mascaras I have used.  It lasted all day, added volume and my eyes looked wide.  You will see from my photos that I have used most of the mascara up now, however, I will be re-purchasing in the near future, maybe in the travel size as I mix it up a lot.

Finally, earlier in the year I purchased No 7’s Midnight Last Mascara as it was on offer from Boots and I was already placing an order.  I have not found a No 7 Mascara that I didn’t get on with until I tried this one.  You may see a theme in my reviews that I hate the mascara at first, then grow to love it well… I expected the same here however, after multiple attempts I just can’t get on with it.  It doesn’t seem to add anything to my lashes and the application is so difficult. It also seemed to smudge under my eye when wearing all day.  It appears that it has been discountinued from Boots.

What is your favourite mascara of the year so far?

My Favourite Daily Makeup [updated]

Hello my beauties,

Since posting my last daily makeup routine, which would have been last year, I have noticed that my makeup has reduced dramatically, especially on the days where I work. If you do not know, I am a lawyer and work Monday-Friday.  I have to be professional at work and therefore, makeup has to appear to be natural.

There is also a couple of other reasons for my reduced daily makeup routine:

  1. Moving in with Mark means that we have had to combine two flats worth of stuff into one, this means a lot less storage.
  2. It is summer – I went away in spring and actually came back with an amazing tan so didn’t wear makeup for a while, I am back wearing makeup again but I am embracing the warm summer weather and my slight tan.

So, this is what is currently loving in my makeup bag…

Too Faced Hangover Primer

I have been using this every day for about two weeks, with or without makeup and you can find my first impressions here.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

I have had this mascara in my collection for a couple of months and I am not going to lie, I wasn’t a fan at first.  I let it dry out a little bit and now I am really enjoying using it. It makes my lashes have so much more volume even if it is a little messy to apply.

Clinque Even Better Foundation

This foundation has been a staple item in my collection for a few years now, I don’t wear foundation everyday but when I do it is this one. It is the one foundation that I always go back to and never have any problems with. It makes my skin look even and fresh as well as causing no issues for my sensitive skin.  I am currently using it with a real techniques brush for ease.

No 7 Airbrush Away Primer

I have done a review of this and you will have seen that it is almost empty.  I have stopped using it as my regular primer now it has been replaced by the Too Faced Hangover however, I really do enjoy mixing a very small amount with my foundation. It seems to make the foundation go on effortlessly and leaves a really nice natural effect.  I may re-purchase this just for this sole reason.

Thailand & Cambodia – Part 1

Happy Mid-Week…

We seem to be flying towards the long weekend!

I thought I would start to share this years travels with you… starting with my second holiday of the year to Thailand & Cambodia.  I managed to go for almost three weeks (only taking 10 working days! – thank you to the late Easter this year) and therefore, I will split the post into different parts for ease and so you don’t get bored.

In April Mark & I jetted off to Thailand and Cambodia via. a few hours at Beijing Airport. This was my longest trip to date and especially scary at first as Mark & I only met in January!  I was excited though, I purchased a backpack (that Mark carried for me most of the time) and we headed to Heathrow airport the night before Good Friday. Mark’s mum actually booked us a hotel and meal for the night before our flight.  It also meant we got a lie in without worrying about traffic to the airport.

The flight to China was 10 hours and it felt like a long 10 hours. The flight took off at about 3pm or just after due to delays so at least it was through our night – not that this mattered with the time difference.  We had a five hour stop over in Beijing, which was actually nice as we could have some food, stretch our legs and pick up more essentials – including a phone charger for Mark as he left his on the plane.

We then had a further 5 hour flight to Thailand. I didn’t expect this to be so bad as it was only half the time but it was still long. I kept saying to myself it is only the same journey to one of the Greek Islands.  Mark slept most of the way but I did struggle. We finally landed in Bangkok at around 5/6pm local time. The heat really does hit you as you walk off the plan and I was unsure whether I would actually adjust to it.  We collected our backpacks that had somehow arrived with us and headed to get a taxi.

During the taxi drive, we discussed our plans for the evening, we only had two nights in Bangkok before flying to Cambodia.  We wanted to make the most of our time here but we were becoming increasingly aware we had been awake 24 hours!  We arrived at our hotel –The Mustang Nero Hotel Bangkok and checked in.  We had found this hotel on Air B&B so had already paid for it.  It was very quirky – which is the main reason we had been attracted to it. You will see from the photos that it was full of weird and wonderful items and stuff animals.  We finally showered which was very much needed, before sitting in the aircon for a few minutes before, getting ready and heading for dinner.  We found a cute little restaurant and ordered dinner, before making the decision to head to  Khao San Road after being awake for 24 hours!

It blew my mind it really did, I had seen nothing like it, and it was very much like what I had seen in the Hangover film but more intense! We had ts of what knows what on the street, cocktail after cocktail and invitations to watch ping pong shows, which we actually declined.  We had a great night however, decided to head back to the hotel at 2am as we were so tired.  We were so glad we did go out on the first night as we return to Bangkok at the end of the holiday just in time for the Kings coronation and a total ban on alcohol which really did change the atmosphere of the place.

We slept amazing that night and woke up early for breakfast – chicken roast dinner! This would have been bad anyway, but it was worse with a hangover.

Anyway, we ate what we could and headed to the city to see the sites, we saw temples, the reclining Buddha at Wat Pho,  the river markets and wondered around the streets taking everything in.  We then decided to pop for lunch – pad thai and more cocktails before going back to the hotel for a nap.  As we knew we had booked two more nights in Bangkok on the way home, we didn’t feel the need to fit everything and we could adjust to the time difference etc.

We decided that our flights to Cambodia meant we had to leave the hotel fairly early so we opted for a quiet dinner and a few drinks, with an early night for our second night in Bangkok. It was a shame that the guest in the room next to us decided to play music all night- even while they slept and therefore, ruining our early night.

Luckily the flight to Cambodia was only an hour – you barely know you have taken off before you are landing again. On the flight I had to fill out our visa applications, which were long but uncomplicated.  I also familiarised myself with their local customs – including what to wear in public etc.  We landed, picked up our visa, collected the bags and headed for the Plantation, Phnom Penh where we were also staying for two nights….

To be continued….

[First impressions] Too Faced Hangover Primer

Happy Monday!

I hope that you all had a good weekend, Mark was away this weekend so I had the weekend on my own. I met my mum for some shopping and lunch and generally relaxed.

I have been wanting to try the Too Faced Hangover Primer for a while and Mark bought it for me last week while we were in Oxford for the day.  I would have purchased the travel sized to try however, he bought me the full sized at £26.00.  I picked it up in the Too Faced store, Oxford but I know that you can purchase it online at many retailers.

On first impressions, the packaging is very cute and I would have probably been tempted to purchase it even if that wasn’t the reason we went into the Too Faced store.  It has a little pump too which actually better than other primers that I have used where they are squeeze tubes.

I have been using the primer every day since I purchased, especially as my No. 7 Airbrush Away has recently run out.  I have been using two/ three pumps either under my foundation or just all over my face if I am not wearing foundation.

The consistency is thicker than the airbrush away but I feel that it really does make your skin look refreshed – with or without makeup.  Although my skin has cleared up slightly recently, I do not think I would have gone makeup free without this product.

My makeup seems to last longer to and my skin looks and feels great. It is very hydrating too and I have had no issues with my sensitive skin.

I will do a full review once I have been using the product for long however, I have a feeling that this will be a firm favourite of mine.

Have your tried this primer?

Love, Minnie xoxo

COLAB Dry Shampoo

I have been on a mission to find the perfect Dry Shampoo, you may remember my terrible experience with the Superdrug one I last tried.  Anyway, earlier this year I discovered COLAB dry shampoo and since then I have tried it in the following scents: Mermaid, Original, Unicorn and Tropical.   I love all the scents and now I am coming to the end of original I am unsure whether to re-purchase the Mermaid one or try a new one.  It is actually like perfume for your hair.

I am not going to lie and the only reason I picked up this brand in the first place was because, it was Unicorn scented and I wanted to find out what that would actually be. However, I am so happy that I did! They are not too heavy on the hair and I actually feel that my hair has been refreshed when I use one. It doesn’t leave a white/grey streak and therefore, I don’t need to worry about rubbing it in until my head hurts.  It is also vegan and free from sulphates or parabens.

They can be purchased in Boots for £3.49 however, I know I have purchased three of them on a 3 for 2 deal in the past so it is always worth keeping your eye open for these! The price however, is very mid-range for dry shampoo’s… I appreciate that there are cheaper ones and of course, more luxury ones.  The balance is good for these, they work well, do the job but are not to expensive.

The company claims:

COLAB Mermaid dry shampoo miraculously absorbs oil without any white powdery residue, leaving your hair feeling fresh and weightless.

COLAB is proudly cruelty free, vegan and mermaid friendly. Free from sulphates and parabens.

This is definitely a product that I will be re-purchasing for a while!

What is your favourite dry shampoo?

[Review]Botanics Organic Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm 97% Organic

Hello!

Hope you’re all good.

If you read my blog last year, you will remember that I was loving Hot Cloth Cleansers and they really did make a difference to my skin. I am still loving them and I have even purchased a bulk order of cloths so I use a fresh one each time I was my face and then pop it in the wash!

Anyway, my local Superdrug has closed down as they are redeveloping the town. Therefore, before I went skiing last year, I had to find an alternative on short notice. I popped into Boots and had a look at their selection.  I settled for the Botanics Organic Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm .

I used it all ski trip and I came back with healthy skin especially considering how cold it was, which surprised me.  I then moved in with my new boyfriend and did not actually use this product for a while however, I have recently rediscovered it and been using it every day again. I really do like it! It makes my skin feel soft and clean – it is a thicker density than the Superdrug ones, it removes all of my makeup at the end of the day.  It does have a scent but it is not too overpowering.

I am almost at the end of the tub now and will re-purchase this in the future.

What is your favourite hot cloth cleanser?

What it claims:

When your skin needs a dose of nourishment, take the day off your face with this cleansing balm, which melts into the skin, hydrating areas of dry skin as it removes make-up. We’ve infused it with Organic Rosehip extract, which is rich in omegas and essential fatty acids, all nourishing for a healthy looking complexion, so the gentle formula leaves skin feeling soft and smooth.

pros –

  • It is inexpensive at £8.99 but you may often find it reduced – at the moment it is £5.99
  • It is easy to find – Boots stock it
  • It has a nice scent
  • It is 97% Organic – which means that it is good for my sensitive skin
  • It protects the skin in cold weather

cons –

  • It is in a tub rather than a tube which means that application isn’t as easy
  • It has more scent than the other brands I have tried.
